If you have been tossing around with the idea of moving to Croatia here are some tips from those who have taken the plunge. Croatia offers what many of us have been looking for, a perfect compromise between “The Mediterranean as it once was” and a modern and comfortable country. The Croatian government has been working steadily towards modernizing its infrastructure while learning from other’s mistakes and not overdeveloping its coast.

Croatia is geographically within central Europe making it easily accessible from all major European cities. Croatia offers a wide spectrum of locations where to live. One can relocate in big cities like Zagreb, Zadar and Split and still be a couple of kilometres from tranquil fishing villages, stunning locations like islands Hvar and Brac, crystal clear blue sea and pine forests.
Living in Croatia is cheaper then most other European countries and business opportunities for those who want to relocate are varied and plentiful. Education is free and obligatory from 7 – 15 years of age.
Once you decide you want to live in Croatia, there are a number of steps you will need to follow to be able to obtain temporary residence. Within 24 hours of entry into the country you will need to apply for an extended tourist stay at the MUP. At this point you will need to prepare several documents to apply for temporary stay. This will allow you to stay in Croatia for 1 year but it can be renewed yearly. Temporary stay can be applied for on several reasons, including business, family, employment, study or real estate purchase. To obtain permanent residence you need to have temporary stay for 5 years or be married to a Croatian national for 3 years.
